Maintaining Your Filtration System: A Seasonal Guide

A water filtration system is only as good as its maintenance. Filters that are overdue for replacement can actually become a source of contamination rather than protection — so keeping to a maintenance schedule is essential.

Here is a practical seasonal guide:

Every 6 months: Replace sediment pre-filters. These catch particulates and protect your downstream filters and RO membranes. A clogged sediment filter reduces flow and puts strain on your pump.

Every 12 months: Replace activated carbon filters. Carbon removes chlorine, taste, and odour from municipal water and should be changed annually regardless of visible condition.

Every 12 months: Replace the UV lamp in UV sterilisation systems. The lamp may still glow after 12 months, but its germicidal output degrades significantly over time.

Every 2 to 3 years: Service or replace reverse osmosis membranes. RO membranes last longer than pre-filters but do require periodic replacement to maintain performance.

Annually: Have your system inspected by a qualified technician. Valve seals, pump performance, pressure settings, and pipe connections should all be checked at least once a year.
